As we await results of Mahmoud Khalil's hearing in a NJ Court, we are outraged as Rumeysa Ozturk is apprehended on Tues March 24 and transferred to Louisiana. See updates at ACLU and Aljazeera.

A letter demanding answers about the abduction of Rumeysa Ozturk was sent by Elizabeth Warren, Edward Markey, and Ayanna Pressley and signed by 31 other House Democrats. None of our Brooklyn representatives were among those who signed.  

Please contact Senators Schumer and Gillibrand, and your Representative, to urge them to demand answers, and the immediate release of Mahmoud Khalil and Rumeysa Ozturk. We need our elected officials to speak out forcefully about this incredible denial of due process and free speech.

New Sanctuary Coalition meets every Thursday from 5:30 - 7:30 at the Brooklyn Friends Meeting House, 110 Schemerhorn Street, Brooklyn.  We are activists working out ways to protect communities, including the immigrant community, and the LGB and trans communities, from this administration's policies. 

After a round-up of report-backs on what people observed in the last week, we breakout into groups pursuing specific actions.  Those breakout groups include: neighborhood groups disseminating information on immigrant rights; accompaniment of those going to deportation hearings; helping specific individuals who are facing deportation; rapid response teams; pro-see clinic; and counseling for those facing detention.

ALL ARE WELCOME! Including activists, faith leaders, students, and even lawyers!  Join us.
